Here’s Why Police Are Telling People To Replace The Screws On Their Front Door

Mariana Harrison bought her first place and invited her dad to help her move and get settled in. Her dad came over with a drill and some amazing advice. Mariana took to social media to share her dad’s wisdom in a Facebook post that has since gone viral.

There is a burglary every eighteen seconds here in America. If we’re doing the math correctly, that means there’s almost 200 burglaries an hour, and nearly 4,800 burglaries every single day. Most people think it could never happen to them, but these shocking statistics prove that this is an issue everyone needs to be aware of. Don’t worry – you can go a long way in protecting yourself by following the advice of Mariana’s father… change your screws!

Mariana’s viral Facebook post says, “My dad gave me this advice when I moved into my first apartment. He came out and changed the screws as soon as I moved in. A good home security tip that you may have never thought about.” She goes on to say that most contractors install the plates with the screws supplied in the package, and it turns out the standard screw is only a half inch long. Screws this length can come out with one good kick from a burglar.

Burglars can kick for a long time, but the nails won’t budge. Her post ends with, “Making a burglar make a bunch of noise and be foiled in their initial plan can not only give you time to arm yourself but they will most likely move on to an easier target.”
